With the 14’s and 16’s having a week off footy, the rest of our teams headed to Fripp oval Ballina, to take on the mighty Bombers!
It was a cool start for the kids, but they took to the fields undeterred and ready for a great day of footy!
If you have pics of the games and you would like to share them so we can post them here, please email media.lsjafc@gmail.com

Under U8s - Swans vs Ballina Bombers
By Coach Peter
The U8’s arrived in Ballina to a very fresh and windy morning and goosebumps were a plenty. With a successful win of the toss we chose to run with the wind in the 1st quarter looking to jump out of the blocks like we had been doing over recent weeks. From the bounce the kids were on the job and very quickly we posted our first goal. The midfield kept up the great work feeding the forwards after every bounce while the back three tried to stay warm by doing pushups.
Into the wind in the 2nd quarter proved more difficult but everyone stuck at it and worked out the high long bombs into the breeze didn’t work so shorter kicks and lots of handballs took the ball forward. Our defence worked hard as Ballina attacked with the breeze and plenty of pressure from our relentless Swans helped stop many shots on goal.
The premiership quarter had the us kicking with the breeze again and the Mighty Swans and blew the game wide open, pardon the pun ! With some great work again from all we posted a big quarter. For the last quarter the kids adapted beautifully again and looked short and worked well close together to move the ball forward. The kids have come so far this season and it’s fantastic to see how quickly they can now adapt to changing conditions.
As the Swans song belted out by the U8’s all minds and dreams turned to the “Biggest game of my life, bigger than playing at Metricon”, to quote one of the U8’s, as we prepare for Oakes Oval next Sunday. Come along and see the last game for the season by these champion up and coming Swans

Under U10 Girls - Swans vs Ballina Bombers
By Corey Smith
Seemed like Groundhog Day as we set up against the Ballina girls on a cool windy Sunday morning. And once again it was a very close game with both sides playing to the fullest. Katrina and Charlee battled well in the centre in the 1st quarter and unfortunately early in the second Katrina injured her finger and had to leave the field.
Djidji, Jaz and Neva gave us many scoring opportunities that we capitalised on,giving us the edge in the final score. Mihaela defended well in the backline her big kicking drove the Ball forward on many occasions.
Lilah was as usual a ferocious ball attacker gaining many possessions.
Neva and Mihaela received the awards.(Thankyou Baskin Robbin).
Bye for now Corey

We played Ballina Bombers on Sunday. A very windy day. Getting our kicks was hard with the strong wind pushing the ball out of bounds. But by the 2 quarter we got a handle on play.
A great game was had. We would like to thank the 2 U10 whites players who helped out. They showed true club spirit. The game was very even. Both coaches agreed. The 2 awards went to Sydney-Jack Baker and Harvey Power. Now bring on Oakes Oval.

Dear Parents, friends and players,
Well.... what a great team effort from our boys "the whites".
It was perhaps one of the windiest mornings to witness a sporting event in the history of sport, there were moments when I thought the team might actually end up at the beach!!!!
However, the boys commitment and endeavour to the cause was admirable.
We were bested on the day by a very good team at their home ground but we fought the game out until the very end.
Harvey and Dean were the voucher winners this week, displaying a thirst for the contest unwavering.
Despite the lack of scoring opportunities the boys fought it out to the final siren, never dropping their heads in a true show of sportsmanship.
Well done lads, you make us proud.

It was always going to tough with 3 players down due to sickness and other commitments. A side reshuffle was in order, having to put Tom Bowker on the backline hurt our forward line.
To the credit of all players they fought hard all game never giving up.
Special thanks to Sydney Jack Baker, Django Benning, Bowie Robertson and Lachlan Bowker (playing his 1st game for the 12’s) and usual Under 10’s players Kypher Dodd, Harvey Power and Jonah Hudson-Sheaffe who all gave their all.
Great effort team
