President: Phillip Knowles
To all of the Lismore Swans Juniors Family,
Welcome to Season 2019! This update is a little later than I would normally like, but it's because the committee has been working overtime this pre-season. So what has our club's committee achieved so far for season 2019? Quite a lot when I look back on it.
Launched our brand new website www.lismoreswansjuniors.com.au and our Instagram page lismoreswansjuniors.
Held our first joint sign on day with our senior club counterparts at the Lismore Shopping Square in January followed by a Bunnings Australia Day weekend BBQ
Secured new sponsorships for the next 3 seasons across a variety of support levels. We welcome: Major Sponsor: North Coast Wholesale & Distribution Platinum Sponsor: Ghetto Babe Street Eats Gold Sponsors: G’s Coffee, Baskin & Robbins Lismore and Goonellabah Newsagency.
We fielded the U16 boys in the summer 16s Comp, which concluded in early April. We now see those players either transitioning into the Northern Rivers Eagles (who play in the Gold Coast u16 competition) or pulling on the Guernsey for our Senior counterparts.
Took place in our first Eat The Street event in partnership with the Gold Coast Suns.
Along with our senior counterparts, we hosted the catering for the Round 2 JLT match between the Sydney Swans and Gold Coast Suns at Oakes Oval.
Played host to the Gold Coast Suns U16 Academy Series at Oakes Oval in early April.
We also signed on as the first sports club in the Northern Rivers, as community partners with Lord’s Taverners Organisation
Conducted an ANZAC day working bee which saw a ute load of rubbish removed. However, the effort doesn’t stop there. Over the coming 4 weeks:
We take possession of our new 6 burner BBQ kindly donated by Bunnings Lismore.
We sign a 5 year lease or Mortimer Oval and associated buildings.
Install our brand new siren along with affixing the scoreboard to Mortimer Tower.
We take possession of our brand new amenities block.
Take delivery of the new Tribal Sport club uniform. You will be able to order this via www.lismoreseansjuniors.com.au and some in person stock will be available at SportsPower.
We will be securing our facilities partner for wet weather training within the Lismore Park north precinct. So regardless of the weather, training will ALWAYS BE ON.
As you can see, we have been busy continuing to work to build a bigger and better club for the community, and we can only do that by engagement from everyone involved.
We understand everyone has busy lives, but did you know that the more engaged a parent/guardian is with the child’s activity, the more engaged the child is in that activity?
So please reach out to the coach or the club, there are many roles needed to get a team on the field each and every week.
Each team requires, as well as the coach, the following:
Manager; Runner; Trainer (first aid); Water Carrier x3; Goal Umpire; Team Scorer; Orange supplier.
Plus at home games:
Ground Marshall; Umpire Steward; First Aid Officer; Scoreboard Attendant; Time Keeper; Siren Blower; Canteen staff x4
So, as you can see many hands are always needed, even if you can only help out once during the season, many hands make light work. And if you have skills you think the club can use at any stage, please make yourself known to the club. We are always looking at ways we can improve facilities and processes.
With our new amenities and with a formal lease being signed, the club is responsible for actions of all members and all patrons adhering to council, league and governed laws.
We ask that all attending our clubs and amenities be aware of the following in particular:
AFLQ has a strict no alcohol policy at all junior events, so please ensure you are not bringing any substance onto premises to consume, this includes consuming in your vehicle in the carpark,
As of May 2, 2016, the NSW state Government introduced law banning smoking in all parks and recreation facilities. Lismore Park North (Mortimer Oval) is no exception to this, should you need to have a cigarette, please ensure you either do so on the footpath at Brewster st (across from McDonalds) or in the carpark on Uralba Street. Make sure you also dispose of your cigarette responsibly and do not litter.
Don’t be a litter bug. $250-$500 are the fines if you do so. Please put your rubbish in the allocated bins
On a final note, our club as a zero tolerance for bullying, offensive language or violence in any manner by any player or spectator. If you feel you have been subject to this kind of behaviour or you see this occurring, please report it to the club immediately.
Thank you to everyone for helping in making the Swans Juniors a club that players want to be a part of. We're very excited by what is still to happen, as well as some very exciting projects in work to make the club still even bigger and better.
Until next time….cheer cheer Lismore!
Warm Regards
Phillip Knowles
