It's amazing to think that we are at pretty much the halfway point of the season! The first half has seen incredible growth and expansion within the club itself, including the securing of multiple sponsors over the next three years, the acquisition of a fantastic brand new amenities block with change rooms, canteen and storage facilities, and of course our brand new playing kit and merchandise!
On field has seen the addition of the fantastic Superstars kids, a second Under 10's team, and the growth of the Under 10 Girls squad! A wonderful example of the continued growth of our club!
Last weekend's games were once again at our home ground, Mortimer Oval, with our Game-day summaries provided by our coaches and managers!

Superstars vs Parents
With the Byron Superstars unfortunately having to cancel pre-game, our tenacious team of talented tyros were looking for some fresh opposition to take on in the early morning chill. It was then that some of the parents, with a few 'ring-ins', joined forces and challenged the champion stars outfit! Little did the opposition know, that they would be literally brought to their knees playing against this well drilled team of red and white pride!
After plenty of to-ing and fro-ing, blitzing runs and scintillating team work, both teams claimed to have taken the points for the day. However those on the sidelines and in the bleachers know who the real winners were! Well done to all involved, in making every moment for these kids on the footy field, all about fun!
Swans Under U8s vs Byron Bay U8s

After some overnight rain we all arrived at Mortimer Oval for our 8.30am start knowing it would be a damp ground and the possibility of more showers during the game. The warm-up was low key and the kids arrived in the new change rooms with their jerseys laid out awaiting them. Kitted up and ready to go with a Go Swans huddle, they burst out of the change rooms through the tunnel formed by Parents and any others that got roped in, the kids got a real buzz out of this, and were rearing to go.
The previous outing against Byron was early in the season and a tough encounter but with much improvement from the group over the last few weeks anticipation was high of a great contest. The game got under way with the weather holding and from the start it was what we thought, tough and fast. Byron are a very slick outfit with good ball skills and our kids stood back a bit in the first quarter but it was a much better start for us than last time. At quarter time the chat was very much on doing what we had been working on and competing for the ball harder. The kids responded and the next 3 quarters were very much a tight tussle and all watching on Sunday morning were treated to a great spectacle. Our midfield fought hard to get ball and send it forward for our sharp shooters to score whilst our defence lifted and tagged the Byron players like real pros making life difficult for them to get easy shots on goal. The kids competed hard and put together the best phases of play to date this season with a chain of passing from the defensive zone to the other end of the field a real highlight and without doubt “Play of the Day”.
Overall as a team we took more marks and passed more accurately than we ever have which was fantastic to see. There were many comments from parents after the game about how well the kids played so we are looking for some really great games in the coming weeks.
With many promising signs and continued hard work at training we will only get better.
Swans Under U10 Girls V Byron Bay U10 Girls
By Coach Corey
We had a starting line up of five players and, with the addition of two girls from Byron, the game got under way.
As usual we were a little slow to get started and the Byron team kicked a few quick goals early in the quarter. But after a couple of position changes we were back in the game and answered with a number of goals from Charlee and Lilah.
Katrina and Neva gave solid drive out of the centre zone and Michaela was strong in defence. The game see-sawed between both teams kicking goal for goal. And the outcome was a very close game played in great spirit.
Week by week the U10 girls are improving in football knowledge and skills. A sign of good things to come.
Thanks to the girls and their parents.

Leaving the change rooms was a highlight for the team and the game was played in high spirits with all players having a great time on field. They all played their zones and the game was a close and even contest.
Special thanks to the u10 white players who helped out.
Swans Under U12s vs Byron Bay U12s
By Coach Shane
We knew it was going to be tough from the start, our boys came out the blocks quickly kicking the 1st goal.
Byron seemed to settle into their game but our boys never gave up repeatedly getting the ball inside 50.
Special mention Chris Barbierato kicking his 1st goal of the year.
Great team effort everyone.
That concludes our round 8 roundup, and now as we move forward to round 9, we will find ourselves for the first time this season having, at home, this Sunday, all of our teams including the Under 14's and Under 16 Girls teams! We will be posting the fixtures very soon, so keep an eye out on our various social media channels!
Please remember that we will always welcome volunteer helpers on Game day, for any task big or small!
