The Mothers Day round began on Friday night at Fripp Oval, Ballina where our Under 14's Boys came up against the local Bombers teams and U16s Girls faced Byron Bay. The 14's game was essentially a practice match as both teams fell just short of numbers, and our 16's girls also fell just short and forfeited, but played as well.
The round continued on Sunday - and what a spectacular day it was... fantastic weather and fantastic coffee from Nikki at G's coffee van, a proud Juniors sponsor, who was busy serving coffees from 7:30am! Thanks Nikki, legend!
Swans Under 14s vs Ballina Bombers U14s
This game was a perfect opportunity for coach Tim Whalan to gauge his players performances, for team balance, and side structure, going forward into the rest of the season.
It was evident early that with Lochie dominating in the middle, Jayden's continuous running and breaking the lines, Blaze bullocking through and Django H-S from the 12's in and under, tackling and not giving an inch, that the team were on!
With Tom B from the 12's running from defence and forming a link up with the mids, and Tom P being a rock in the backline, the forward line was left open for Caleb to capitalise on the scoreboard! With Nicki-Lee and Tinalia from the U16 girls providing great support and pressure on their opponents, it was a great team effort!
Goal Kickers: Caleb Maguire 6; Lochlan Maguire 4; Tom Bowker 2; Django Hudson Sheaffe 1; Jayden Power 1; Blaze Smith 1

Swans Under 16 Girls vs Byron Bay U16 Girls
The girls were up against a very strong and hard running Byron outfit on Friday night with their backline being constantly under pressure to repel to constant advances.
They were jumped early but continued to work hard, and as the rain began to fall, our girls really dug in and had some significant moments, through great tackling, chase downs, breaking the packs, and not allowing the opposition to run away with the game.
For these players its all about the 2nd and 3rd efforts in each contest, and gut running every quarter out. Well done to all the players, and stand-in coach Maggie Riley for passing on her incredible knowledge!

Sunday Superstars! Swans vs Murwillumbah Vulcans
A beautiful Sunday morning greeted us at our first home game at Mortimer Oval, and also a celebration of all our beautiful, and amazing Mothers, Grand Mothers, carers and Mums to be!
And what better way to begin, than our inaugural Superstars game, featuring the youngest stars of the future! It was such a brilliant sight to see, with the kids donning their new club colours, the parents running around assisting and cheering, and all the spectators sharing together the positive impact our wonderful sport has on the kids, families and the community! Brilliant!!

Swans Under 8's vs Murwillumbah Vulcans U8's
Playing next to our Superstars, were our Amazing 8's against the Vulcans of M'Bah! The incredible thing watching all of these kids, is how far they have improved in such a short time!
With so many new to the game, it is a credit to Coach Peter Harden, and the parents who help out at each and every training session, in how the skills, sportsmanship, and most importantly the enjoyment of the players themselves, has progressed!
Long may these examples be the bench mark for all Junior Footy aspirations!

Swans Under 10 Girls vs Byron Bay U10G's
What a fabulous sight it was seeing 2 teams of under 10 girls out on the oval playing footy, not only enjoying themselves, but showcasing some excellent kicking, hand balling, some great marks, teamwork, and fantastic sportsmanship!
It was both a great celebration of the day, but also a validation for coach Corey Smith, and the parents, that when investing time into these teams, becomes so rewarding when you have days like this! Well done to all involved!

Swans Under 10's vs Murwillumbah Vulcans U10's
Our 10's arrived in numbers to take on the Vulcans in the penultimate game of the Mothers Day round. With our team lending players each quarter the game was under way with plenty of real skill and drive evident on the field.
It's incredible to see the players of "experience" at such a young age, stand out on the field, but it's the little things from our new kids, the first timers to the sport, let alone the game, that really helps build the team, and strengthen the club.
With exciting times ahead in the Under 10's competition, it will be great to see every player out there having the best time playing the best game!!

Swans Under 12's vs Murwillumbah Vulcans U12's
In the final game of this fabulous Mothers Day round at home, the ever improving 12's team took on the Vulcans, who were playing up a few U10's in a fantastic effort to support their 12's.
The game began and our players took it to the opposition immediately, with some slicing runs, fast hands, and split second decision making, resulting in constant surges into the forward line and creating multiple chances for scoring. The Vulcans never gave in but were clearly out bodied by the Swannies, in what was a very clinical performance by the home team.
We are getting right into the season now, and nothing but positive signs are coming out of this team each and every time they play. A continued focus to not only enjoy themselves, but to improve their skills will only benefit these guys as the season progresses!
Goal Kickers: Thomas Bowker 7; Jai Leach 5; Louis Ashby 3; Caleb Maguire 3; Lachlan Power 1; Django Hudson Sheaffe 1; Django Benning 1.

A massive thank you to the Murwillumbah Vulcans teams and the Byron Bay Under 10's girls for joining us and supporting our raffle and canteen on that special day.
It's a fantastic footy community we have, and the collaborative work each club does for each other is invaluable in strengthening the code in our region! Thanks to the umpires. First Aid was excellent! See you next week!
