U8.5's Vs Tweed Tigers
As Yogi Berra said – “It was like déjà vu, all over again”. For the second week in a row the U8.5s travelled to Barry Sheppard oval to take on the Tweed Tigers . This week it was Tweed Black.
From the start it was clear that these were two evenly matched sides. The contest for the ground and contested ball was tough from the start. In an area where Tweed probably got better of us, Lismore had a couple of standouts. Jack Watson, one of our younger and smaller players showed the way – his intensity at the contest was rewarded with some great one-on one wins. Callum as always, excelled in the tight stuff getting plenty of the ball and engaging in a great running battle with their star midfielder. I’m not sure either of them quiet got the no tackling edict!
Once we had the ball, the kids showcased their skills. Each week the speed of their decision making improves and we are hitting more targets and finding open teammates. Brayden showing sticky hands to pull in a couple of strong marks.
With the umpire reticent to pull up players going on long runs, Hugh took full advantage. Harking back to his Rugby background he stepped his way through the defence at will.
With the game close (although no one - except the players keeping score) there was plenty of tension. Tom H and Tom W peppering the goal as the game came to its conclusion. Each near miss being greeted with groans and shouts of encouragement from team mates.
An enjoyable game all round.

U10.5's Vs Tweed Tigers
Well done to the Swans boys for another great game in Tweed this week – and to parents and carers for making the early morning trek up the highway to Barry Sheppard oval. It was a perfect day for footy and everyone enjoyed watching the boys give it their best.
It was a very competitive game against a well-drilled side. The Tweed Coast Black displayed some amazing slick teamwork and showed hoe much the boys all across the competition have improved. However the swans boys tried really hard all day and never gave up chasing, tackling and hassling. We managed a couple of goals and made it hard for Tweed to score on many occasions.
Highlights included excellent chasing and tackling by Eli, Will, Sol and Archer, and Syd was like a brick wall across the back half in the final quarter. Zack, Fynn and Harvey looked dangerous up forward and Levi took some great chest marks, clunking them so hard we thought he might burst the ball! Lachlan, Keegan and Zack made some good spoils and Dean put in some good clearing kicks to get us out of trouble. Ollie put himself into great positions to compete for the Sherrin, and was rewarded with the encouragement award for great effort, along with Jonah for his continued tenacity.
Under 14.5 Ballina Swans v Tweed Coast Tigers
Another week of football another trip to Barry Sheppard Oval. The coaching staff decided to switch Danny into the forward line and put James Bazzana into the centre. The Tigers had a smaller centre line so the decision was made to give Django a chance in the middle, a decision that paid off, Django was a star. Lochlan proved once again to the focal point up forward kicking 4 goals for the game and passing off 3 others. Captains Jayden and Jack were fantastic out of the centre yet again. Ethan had a great game once put onto the wing. 100 gamer Tom Bowker was awesome on the forward line and down back briefly. The backline stood tall again led by Kobi and Caleb. Dante was changed onto a wing and had his best game for the season winning clearance after clearance and getting the ball inside forward 50. Josh must have left his kicking boots at home kicking 6 behinds. For the whole last quarter we had 1 on the interchange as we had Malachi and Luke off injured. Congratulations to all for a fantastic game.
Congratulations Tom Bowker on 100 games.
