SWANS V TIGERS CLASSIC ROUND

We played host to the Tweed Tigers for Round 9 at Mortimer Oval, in what was not only a chilly start to the day, but also scene to some fabulous games of footy! We also had the Under 14's playing their first home game of the season with us!

So with the early morning setups completed, and the canteen and coffee services ready to go, all that was needed was plenty of enthusiastic, keen and energetic footballers to take the field and get this fabulous feast of footy underway!

Superstars Swans v Tigers

After triumphantly taking on the parents and ring ins last week, our fabulous Superstars were extremely happy in playing against a "more qualified" team of players, that being the Stars from Tweed!

Once again it was the enjoyment seen from all the participants on both sides, that makes this age group of kids not only wonderful to watch, but also so very important in teaching new skills, coordination, and teamwork.

As each young champ sees themselves gain these new attributes, it reinforces that belief and instills newly found confidence in these growing minds and bodies. It's a testament to the parents, carers, and coordinators of the Superstars format. Amazing work everybody!

Under U8s - Swans vs Tweed Tigers

By Coach Peter

With a very cool morning at Mortimer the U8's took to the field against the Tweed Tigers Black side. As the game got going Tweed were full of running and hand balling which caught us off guard a little and they got the jump on us.

The kids tried hard and stayed in touch toiling hard with some good passages of play and some nice snaps from Tom and Hugh capped these off.

A tough cold day with the kids learning a different way to play good footy today from the Tigers.

Under U10 Girls - Swans vs Byron Bay

By Coach Corey

It was always going to be a big ask. The tweed U10girls girls are a team that have played together for 3 yrs and have a number of very skilled players not to mention tall!.

Not daunted at all the Lismore girls fought bravely at every 1/4 and managed a number of goals to  keep the scoreboard in a reasonable position at games end.

Charlee,Jaz and Katrina were a strong trio in the centre ,while Mihaela and Neva with their long kicks out of the backline gave solid drive forward and in the forward line our ferocious duo of Didji and Lilah took the opportunities to score when they arrived and fought hard in the packs.

Great game girls.

Under 10s - Swan Reds vs Tweed Coast Black

By Manager - Warren

Great game against tweed coast black. We put up a good fight. The player's started to work to a game plan. By the 4th quarter the team started to gel together, so a few 6 pointers were had.

Big shout out to some players who turned up early and played 2 games.

Under U10s - Swans White vs Tweed Tigers Yellow

By Coach Robbie and Richard

What a great game!!

Arriving at our beloved home ground at 8am was a chilly affair. The sun was weakly shining after a very cold lantern parade Lismore night.  There was a bit of dew on the ground and for the lesser folk of Lismore a lengthy lie in would have been very welcome.

Not so for the brave warriors (and families) of the Lismore Swans U10's.  The new change rooms and the buzz of activity from the amazing support crew had the team up and about and ready for the game.  The Tweed tigers were also running through their paces as the team did a light jog to warm up.

Using the new facilities to get ready and running through the guard of honour really put a spring in the lads step as they made their way to the field.  The sun had also started to warm the air up so it was perfect conditions to play by the time the game got underway.

The match started at a frenetic pace with a salvo of shots on our goal the would have made any "digger" proud.  Xavier was chief among the early forays forward with the first four shots on goal in the opening minutes.  He would go on to play a great game scoring 3 or 4 goals and sharing other opportunities.

Fynn and a sub from the Tigers (Max, the dusty Martin lookalike) were also prolific in peppering the goals and creating attacking plays.  It was so dominant a display that Robbie, our noble coach, said he hoped it wasn't going to be too one-sided!!

It wasn't long before the Tigers switched on and a much more even arm wrestle unfolded.

The captain for the day Lachlan, was up against a giant in black and yellow, so big in fact, he had me wondering what kind of income would be required to feed such a growing boy.  Anyway, Lachlan was up for the challenge and undeterred rucked with the spirit of the great captains in the game.  Busy at the coalface were Harvey and Jonah, without doubt 2 of the most hardworking, ball seeking, eager for the contest players we could possibly hope for.  They are a pleasure to coach and joy to watch,  well done lads!!

The tigers held sway for most of the second quarter with a dominant display of good kicking, good marking and teamwork, we certainly had our work cut out for us to remain in the contest.  A few players down, (no Kypher or Max) we were desperate for the half time siren.  The game was on a knife's edge.  And with no oranges in sight the boys really had to dig deep to get through the half time break unscathed.

The third quarter started the same as the 2nd, our boys chasing the opposition with the ball, we laid some immense tackles only to go unrewarded as the umpire had put away the whistle to allow the game to flow.  It is in this kind of situation that Archer blossoms.  He loves a tackle, the bigger the opponent the harder he goes, persistent, tenacious, unfazed by the enormity of the challenge, Archer relishes the work.  He brought down player after player until the ump had no choice but to reward the effort, the tide was turning.

Having spent most of the quarter in our back half, it was time to step up and wrestle back control of the game............enter our 2 match winners and voucher collectors for the day Dean and Keegan.  Both were outstanding harassing their opponents into submission.

They became a wall almost impossible to scale. Out-marking (Keegan) and out working the other team created rebound footy at it's best.  So dominant were these boys that the last quarter saw the ball barely venture down back as the Tigers slowed and tired from the onslaught.  We also benefited from replenishment cavalry in the form of Syd, Eston and Bowie (thanks boys!)

All in all a great game and a job well done. Congrats boys, you did us proud. Go Swannies!!

Under U12s - Swans vs Tweed Tigers

By Coach Shane

Under 12’s played Tweed Coast at Mortimer Oval.

Tweed were fast out the blocks kicking 4 goals to nothing.

Our boys fought back strongly out scoring Tweed in the next 3 quarters only to fall short.

Great team effort everyone!

Under U14s - Swans vs Tweed Tigers

By Coach Tim

After a lengthy break from our last game, the swans under 14 team came in undermanned with a group of players being unable to play due to sickness. Thankfully, we had some excited under 12’s back up from their game and double up.

One of which was Malachi who went on a rampage in the 2nd quarter, kicking 3 goals in as many minutes!

The game was tight throughout the game, with many lead changes and lots of fast and hard football. The last 5 minutes of play was as exciting as it can get as we saw length of the field goals and big tackles. However, it was Tweed who were able to kick the last one and give the swans a heartbreaking 3 point loss.

All players tried hard all day. Lachlan battled the whole game as the sole ruck while Jayden worked hard with a tag in the midfield. Louis was outstanding in every position he went and Tinalia continued to present up forward.

A huge thank you to all of the under 12 players who played 2 games and made this game possible.

That concludes the events of Round 9 at our wonderful home ground. With plenty of inclement weather about, it's going to be an interesting week regarding the state of our ground for the next weekend of footy!

We will never say never, so at this stage it is full steam ahead for next Sunday's round against the Ballina Bombers and Bulldogs from Brunswick Heads! Keep an eye on all our media sources for updates as each day draws near.
